New Iran Sanctions “A Responsible, Warranted Consequence” to Ballistic Missile Test
WASHINGTON – Congressman Patrick Meehan (R-Pa.) today issued the following statement following word that the U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed additional sanctions on Iran after the Iranian regime’s test of a ballistic missile earlier this week:
“For years, the Obama Administration bent over backwards to accommodate Iran in its quest to secure and protect its nuclear deal,” said Congressman Meehan. “Iran’s development of its ballistic missile program shows its belligerence and aggression continue unabated. These sanctions are a responsible, warranted consequence of Iran’s actions – and a clear signal to the Iranian regime that the days of endless American accommodation are over.”
In 2015, prior to the signing of the Iran nuclear deal, Meehan introduced the Justice for Victims of Iranian Terrorism Act, legislation which would have prohibited the lifting of sanctions on Iran until it compensated the victims of its state-sponsored terror. The legislation was approved by the House with bipartisan support.
